Market Report: Playstation 1
I still have my 1st generation PlayStation, which I bought pretty close to release day back in 1995 just before starting college. I also still have most of my games (If anyone has seen my longbox PGA Tour '96 please email me). I later worked at Toys R Us during the mid to late 90's and stocked and sold hundreds of PlayStation games as the console become such a huge success. And wow do I wish I has bought and saved some of the Working Designs stuff we had back then.
Instead, I was more into the fighters. So I still have all of the Street Fighter Alphas, Pocket Fighter, MK3, and Street Fighter Ex+ Alpha (pictured). The copy I have pictured is a variant, a Best Buy exclusive I think, which I cannot find listed anywhere else.
I don't have the PS1 set up these days, as I have limited space and I can play the games on the PS3. But the fond memories of the system remain. As far as collectibility goes, it could be argued that PS1 games are in generally not very collectible. There were an astonishing number of games (close to 2400) released for the system and the overwhelming majority of those are basically worth nothing.
But there are certainly a few gems. Here are a few interesting, recent auctions/sales I have noted:
A complete copy of Misadventures of Tron Bonne sold for $286.94
on June 6, 2017;
Psychic Force, complete, sold for $177.50 at auction on June 2, 2017;
An complete copy of Tales of Destiny sold for $179.99;
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete - sealed sold for $170.25 at auction at May 14, 2017;
A complete copy of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile sold for $175.95 on March 15, 2017.
A copy of Suikoden II sold for $163.81 at auction on May 14, 2017.
